If The Earth Wasn't Round
These unique ceramic pieces, crafted from faience and raw glaze, are part of an ongoing series titled If the Earth Wasn’t Round. Inspired by the captivating interplay of colors in the waters of the large dams of the Alentejo region—where I reside—this work explores the ever-changing relationship between water and the surrounding landscapes.
Through a meticulous process, I seek to capture the hues and movements of water and earth by embracing the natural behavior of clay. Each abstract ceramic landscape is shaped by chance and accident, resulting in distinct and singular pieces.
Original Paintings
“This series reflects two pivotal aspects of my life: my experience with agricultural work in Alentejo and the nostalgia for my birthplace, Madeira. Centered around the horizon line, my paintings capture the changing seasons, textures, and colors of the landscape. Through an intuitive process that embraces chance and material interactions, I create what I call ‘Abstract Landscapes’—where each observer can imagine their own scenery. Influenced by 20th-century American movements like Color Field Painting, Action Painting, and Abstract Expressionism, my work focuses on the medium’s potential to convey atmosphere and movement.”
